An exciting fusion of tradition and technology
Trevor Heath's prints interweave his traditional drawing and painting skills with high definition, digitally created elements such as typography, revelling in the opportunities opened up by new technologies. He personally handles every stage, from picking up the pencil or brush, on through multi–layered digital explorations to making his original giclee prints of the complete image. He is fascinated by the crossover between fine art and illustration, many of his favourite artists having been illustrators. In his strong, distinct style it is possible to see echoes of their work: Peter Blake's portraits, mixing fine art painting with words and graphics; the commercially influenced simplicity of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein; the use of line drawing and colour in the innovative work of Eagle comic artists Frank Hampson and Frank Bellamy. Heath's work also reflects various aspects of popular culture: the interplay between words and pictures; the imagery used in films; the typography on magazine covers, ads and packaging. |
